Wow ! Someone is working on an 11k resolution ?

Hey guys ?
Are you happy with a 2.5k screen resolution on your smartphone.
. If you are not , let me tell you that Samsung is working on an 11k resolution.
This is surely ridiculous !
Has the tech department at the South Korean company finally just lost the plot . It might seem that way , but lets find out more !
According to Korean IT news Samsung is taming up with over 13 local and international companies to try and have 11k display for smartphones , by 2018 , what's interesting here is that the south Korean government itself is investing 26.5 million dollars over the course of 5 years to make this reality which i think puts a slightly nationalistic spin on things , but more on this later .

So an 11k resolution is obviously high frosted fathom as people living in 2015. Today's technology of 2.5 k phones pales in comparison .
So lets put the screen in perspective .You guys out there who loves specs my get a kick out of this . assuming in 2018 we would have similar screen sizes  as we have today.

An 11k display will have a resolution of about 11,520 x 6480 pixels and with a pixel density of 2250 ppi. (ppi = pixels per inch )
For comparison , today out high end flagships like the Samsung galaxy s6 has a pixel density of about 577ppi and is the sharpest phones of the moment and where an iPhone 6 has a pixel density of 407ppi
Put it in pixel terms , this 11k screen would have a whooping 74 megapixels , a modern 1080p display screen is about 2 megapixels and a 4k display is about 8 megapixels. So that's all willing good but the questions must be asked and this is probably what you all are wondering that  "what is the point ?"
well , the point actually may not be what you think, what you about to hear is the primary point according to Samsung's display executive Chu hee yang , "We are hoping that we are able to show these technology at the  2018 Pyeong Chang winter Olympics in Korea" , its basically primarily to show how south Korea's technological progress on the worlds stage while everyone is looking , you can now see why the south Korean govt has a direct interest in this project .
Basically it also helps to make Samsung improve and take the whole tech industry forward .

 So is it possible ?
Well at the moment it is hard to say directly on my end , but it also seems that 26 million dollars to direct funding , a lot of progress will no doubt be made !
So another question that's quite important , what about the practical uses ?

What would be such a high resolution mobile screen gonna be useful for ?
Well , one obvious use is the mobile virtual reality.
Another such application is mobile convergent where user can make use of mobile screen to make projection on a much larger screen size , with the help of external input such as keyboard and mouse .
Okay , but obviously there's gonna be some drawbacks right ?

What are the negatives ?

Well , obviously the more pixels you have the more power takes to keep them lit and the hotter the on-board graphics units has to work to change all those pixels ,so we see a massive decrease in performance and  power efficiency !
However this may be offset by the growth in mobile performance by 2018 which could be anywhere  from 4 to 16 times more capable than current day devices

So what's the conclusion here ?

Well , if i may inject some personal opinion i think 11k is over killed to be honest , i think 4k resolution should be happy ultimate screen specification for 2018 and the beyond , but then again , i could be completely wrong , after all bill gates famously stated in 1981 that 640kb of ram should be enough for anyone .

Cheer guys
#Peace
